Fortnight for Freedom Event
The second Fortnight for Freedom will be from June 21 to July 4.Through prayer, study and peaceful public action during the Fortnight for Freedom, we hope to remind ourselves and others throughout the Diocese of Des Moines about the importance of preserving the fundamental right of religious freedom. Bishop Pates is hosting a mass, holy hour and reception, for life, marriage, and religious liberty at St. Ambrose Cathedral on Sunday, July 7. Mass will start at 10:30. Holy Hour will be at 11:45, followed by a reception at the Pastoral Center at 12:45.
Do you communicate by ASL or want to help other families learn to communicate by ASL with their deaf/hard of hearing children? Several families are organizing a group to help get to know the deaf community. They will meet at GiGi's Playhouse ( 10430 New York Avenue, Suite A Urbandale, Iowa 50322) on the following dates:
June 18, 5:30 p.m. -7:30 p.m. (Supper provided)
July 23, 5:30 p.m. -7:30 p.m. (Supper provided)
August 20 (Possible fieldtrip to the Iowa State Fair)
September 17, 5:30 p.m. -7:30 p.m. (Supper provided) **Other Dates to be determined**

Hearts on Fire Young Adult Retreat: July 12-13 at Christ the King
“Hearts on Fire: Living Faith in Daily Life with Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola,” A Team of Young Jesuit Presenters, A Group of Young Adults, A Thousand Graces, One Heart. Abundant Living Potluck Picnic
Come join Abundant Living, a social group with the mission of celebrating the gift of the Church’s teaching on Natural Family Planning, for a potluck picnic! This event is open to all families. The picnic will be at Raccoon River Park (2500 Grand Ave, WDM, IA Coneflower shelter) on July 25th, from 6-8 pm. The main course and drinks are provided, and families are encouraged to bring a side dish or dessert. The Family Promise of Greater Des Moines 7th Annual Garden Party
and Silent Auction Fundraiser
Paula and Pat Hart will host the garden party in their beautiful garden and wooded acreage at 32237 Deer Trail, Adel, Iowa from 6:30-9:30pm on June 21. The mission for Family Promise is to mobilize our community to help homeless families to achieve stable housing and income through compassionate care, hospitality and professional support. Catholic Scripture Study
Catholic Scripture Study is accepting registrations for their fall sessions. One of the studies will be on Angels and Demons which lasts 25 weeks. A 10 week study, “Entertaining Angels” is written by Mike Aquilina and a 15 week study, “Angels throughout the Ages,” is written by Dr. Richard Bulzacchelli, STD. Fr. Mitch Pacwa, SJ presents the video lectures that accompany the study. Classes are on Wednesday mornings from 9:30-11:00 at St. Augustin’s, with child care provided. Purity Retreat for Junior High Girls
The retreat starts at 6p.m. on June 21 and ends at 4p.m on June 22, for girls in 7-9 grades. It will be at St. Pius X Parish Hall. Registration fee is $30. Registration deadline is May 31. th during the 4 pm mass at St Ambrose’s Cathedral in Des Moines Bishop Pates will be honoring those couples in our diocese who have celebrated a milestone anniversary in the last year, with a cookie and juice reception to follow for these families. A certificate of blessing is available with registration for couples celebrating their 5

th, 15
th, 25
th, and 50 plus wedding anniversaries. Reserved seating will be available for these couples and their families.
